nequamYousuke had an early start on the dark path, and joined the yakuza. At the age of 21, he was already a hitman of the gang he was in, and took care of many jobs he considered boring. Then one day, a hit went wrong, and he, after managing to barely escape alive, was shot in the forehead without any resistance.
He woke up in a place he was unfamiliar with, surrounded by strnagers. He was informed that he was dead, and that he had become an angel because God decided he was to be one. Although he's on probation, so that might change. Also, Yousuke can't remember how he died.
He was sent to the living world to train in being an angel, accompanied by the archangel Zerachiel. There, Yousuke was supposed to do good deeds, and show that he's capable of being an angel that helps people. If not, he'll be sent to Hell as a fallen angel.
It doesn't go that well for Yousuke though, because he uses his yakuza smile on little kids etc, so they run away from him in tears. Zerachiel demonstrates how to help people, but he just uses his pretty face to make people smile, which pisses Yousuke off.
Yousuke ditches, under the condition of a 5 minute break, and he goes to find cigarettes. When he realizes he's close to his house, he goes there to see if he can remember how he died, which he does. He was shot by an elder member of the gang he's in.
That elder member saw Yousuke and wondered why the hell he was running about, since he was supposed to be dead, and followed Yousuke. When Zerachiel caught up to Yousuke and Yousuke showed him a plant that he had kept watering, Yousuke is shot (again) by his elder. But that was because he got in-between Zerachiel and the bullet, so he saved Zerachiel.
However, turns out, to Yousuke's and his elder's surprise, that angels can't die, so Yousuke just gets up again, with his flaky halo popped out. Zerachiel decides that they are to bestow heavenly punishment (of love) upon the guy who shot Yousuke, since he's a band man who kills people, and they beat him up.
After that, Yousuke takes a smoke, but collapses because angels can't smoke. He's patched up, and finally manages to be of some help by getting a ball from a tree for some children. For the first time in his life, Yousuke is told "thanks" for something. Zerachiel decides to let him be a normal angel for a while longer while he evaluates him.
